POPULAR ROCK STAR CRUSHES LANDSCAPER’S TRUCK
Joke was too much for mild-mannered singer!
While shooting an episode of Junk’d, the makeover show with a twist, Platinum-selling musician Edwin McCain, whose song “I’ll Be” has been voted “best wedding song” by more than one million viewers of “Dr. Phil,” crushed one of the host’s pick-up trucks.
Each Junk’d episode plays a joke on a homeowner in the form of a home makeover gone bad, and ends with the makeover being completed to perfection after the homeowner’s reaction to being “junk’d” is caught on tape.
The normally laid-back environmentalist who was the victim in the Junk’d episode, McCain appeared to be so upset with being “junk’d” that he called in his form of justice – a monster truck – and proceeded to crush the pick-up belonging to Bret “Skip” Skipper, one of the show’s hosts and producers, before Skipper’s disbelieving eyes. What Skipper didn’t know was that the spin of the joke and the crushing of the truck were worked out a month ahead of time between McCain and the show’s co-producer, Brad Hauter.
Edwin McCain’s episode kicks off the fourth season of Junk’d, which is scheduled to begin on more than 300 stations across the country on October 6.
Hauter explained, “We selected Edwin to be “junk’d” because of all of the work he does with charities in his community and across the U.S. The show originally was created in an effort to drive awareness for the environment and the great work of Keep America Beautiful, so we are similar philosophically with Edwin. We felt he would be a great role model to have on the show. When we got to know him and experienced his sense of humor, we decided he’d be a great choice to flip the joke on Skip.”
The producer said of McCain's role, “We were shocked at how well Edwin was able to flip the joke on our seasoned host. I mean, Skip has spent the last four years playing jokes on homeowners across the U.S.”
McCain is currently on the road in support of his latest release, “Lost in America.” His September 20 appearance at the Vogue Theater in Indianapolis, dubbed the “I’m Sorry I Smashed Your Truck Concert,” will be sponsored by Junk’d.

Of his experience on Junk’d, McCain said, “It was one of the funniest shows I’ve ever been on. There was a lot of pressure, though, because I was supposed to play a joke on a professional joker. I’d seen Junk’d before and thought it’d be fun to give it a shot. The tough part was I had to crush Skip’s pick-up truck. That’s why I'm launching this one-show concert tour, to say, ‘I’m sorry I smashed your truck.’”
When asked why he decided to come to Indianapolis for one concert, McCain said, “As a fairly new father, I look at things and the world a little differently. Since the inception of Junk’d, and even earlier, during Brad Hauter’s two cross-country lawnmower rides, the people at the show have been working with Keep America Beautiful to achieve a cleaner greener environment. Coming to do a concert with them is my way of lending support to the great work they do for all of our communities."
Hauter said, “As part of the concert, Edwin and the guys from Junk'd have put together the “I’ll Be” contract, available at junkd.tv, allowing concert-goers to pledge their support of a cleaner, greening America. Anyone who prints out and signs the contract and brings it to Edwin’s concert at the Vogue on September 20 will get a free concert t-shirt in support of environmental efforts.”
